The second week of June we made the long trek to Utah for the Brady Reunion. {And that trek is cause for a whole post in itself. I'll get to that one of these days} But while there, we blessed Annabelle at the Brady's house on Sunday, June 7. My Aunt Charlotte made her beautiful dress based on one that I saw online. It turned out beautiful and I also plan to take more pictures (with a headband because I forgot to pack them) so I will post those soon. Jon gave her a beautiful blessing. I can't help but feel like this little lady needed our family and we needed her. She completes us and I'm so grateful we have her. I am sure I am just beginning to see the scope of why we were lucky enough to get her. It has been so fun to see Vanessa and Benson adore Annabelle. To put my kids' spacing in perspective; Vanessa was Brigham's age when Brigham was born. There is actually more space between Annabelle and Brigham than Vanessa and Brigham. Anyway, this is the first time I've had kids old enough to adore the baby with me and it's the funnest thing. They love to talk to her and hold her. Everything she does is exciting and cute. She is on the fast track to being one spoiled chic.

May
We had two days of doctor appointments mixed in with time at the zoo, hotel pool, and the science center. My parents stayed in St Louis for a day and waited for Steph and the boys to fly in and we drove back to Springfield to finish packing. Then everybody helped us move into our new house! While we had so much family around we did an early birthday party for Vanessa! We also had an adults only dinner at our favorite Ocean Zen!
This is my new fridge and I love it. It has to be commercial size or something because it is enormous. The freezer is where you really feel the difference though. It's just wow.
So Benson was accepted into the trials so on May 18 we headed back up to St Louis for his first spinal injection. For the first injection he was admitted to the hospital and stayed overnight and then was released. Jon and I took turns being with Benson and then being with the other three. We also had the kids all at the hospital for short bursts.
Pre-Injection picture. Cure SMA!
This was just before bed, several hours after the injection.
Then we headed back down south in time to finish cleaning up the Springfield house. We also picked a few strawberries from the patch that we would only own for a few more days. Then we closed on our Springfield home and are now officially Nixa residents. Phew.
Owning two homes was stressful :)

Easter
Life is still wrapped in the chaos of moving and Easter was no different. It was also conference weekend and I am still trying to catch up on talks that I missed. Saturday we had two showings so we were basically gone the whole day. We were able to come back home around 3. We caught an hour of conference and then died Easter eggs. They each did four eggs. Last year we did Easter baskets and a hunt on Saturday and I loved that it kept the Sabbath more holy. But that wasn't an option this year so the Easter bunny came on Sunday. Vanessa and Benson woke up and we let them find their baskets as soon as they woke up. But we made them wait to do the egg hunt until Brigham had woken up. After Brig woke up, he looked for his basket. It was coooold outside. And he was wearing shorts and a tshirt for jammies. After Vanessa and Benson had waited a good 30 minutes for Brig, I told all of them not to go out for the eggs until they had jackets on. While I was getting those, Brig busted outside and filled his arms with all the eggs he could hold. Little stinker. It was kind of funny though. He also refused to put warm clothes on so he hunted for Easter eggs freezing his little buns off. I feel really guilty about what a stress mess I am and how I am spending 80% of my time cleaning the house so I tried to make up for that with some more decorative snacks than normal. They didn't take much extra time but the kids thought they were pretty fancy.

I Believe in Miracles
I wrote this last year on Benson's blog but I wanted it recorded here
I Believe in Miracles
Having a son with a very obvious physical disability and living in the Bible belt, I hear at least monthly something to the effect of "miracles happen" or "God heals." I don't believe God will heal my son. But I believe in miracles. Being born, raised, and believing in a faith with every fiber of my being that has the restored priesthood- the same priesthood Christ used to heal the sick and raise the dead- I have no doubt God has the ability and the power to heal my son. Usually when someone tells me to have faith and believe in miracles, I smile and nod. But my heart wants to tell them of all the miracles we have seen; though they haven't included him miraculously taking up his bed and walking.
I would tell them of when we were first trying to figure out what was wrong, how the Lord guided and directed our decisions, how he lead us to the right doctors, and how he protected our hearts from utter devastation.
I would tell them of his early ability to communicate. How he has been blessed to tell us what he needs since he was 18 months, around the time he lost all ability to crawl.
I would tell them of all the people that have reached out to help, how their small contributions of both time, money, and equipment have made it feel like we are less alone; have taken away some of the weary and strain.
I would tell them of the miracle of getting his first manual chair. How we were in school and could never afford a $5000 chair. But how we found someone willing to sell one for just $2200 and then our family all chipped in and helped.
I would tell them of days of sickness, when he is coughing and choking and I feel the fear in my heart. Of God's comforting arms for me and quick healing for my son.
I would tell them when surgery was just two days away; stomach flu was dropping everyone around us like flies, myself included. Then Benson got a fever. A priesthood blessing, a nap, and four hours later he was fever free and surgery went as planned.
A surgery that was decided on by much prayer and fasting; a gtube- which enabled us to give him better nutrition and brought back strength he hadn't had for months.
I would tell them of days when my heart hurt so much I didn't know how I could go on but found strength in my husband, my children and my God.
And I would tell them of Benson's own prayers. Of his power chair breaking but working again, if only for Halloween. Prayers to get better when sick. Prayers to be strong.

So yes, I believe in Miracles. My life is a daily witness to them. And I thank God every day for the miracles he sends me.

A Few Highlights of My Last Few Days
Monday I had to take Vanessa to co-op. Our house has been listed for just a couple days and I'm still trying to figure out how to handle the constant cleaning. Before going to bed on Sunday, I cleaned the house spotless including a vacuum and mop. So Monday morn, we got up and got ready and as soon as I could I sent the kids outside. I picked up a few last things and left myself. I put the ramp down for Benson which apparently took the very last of my battery juice. Dead battery. Awesome. I walked to all of my immediate neighbors and no one was home. Okay, so I know one neighbor was home but they are not nice people and I was afraid to ask. I ended up having to call my VT, who came to my rescue. While we were waiting, I asked Vanessa to water the plants but Brig ended up spraying Benson with the hose. Change Benson. Feed Annabelle. Jump the car. On our way. And only an hour late.
I drop Vanessa at co-op and the. Head to Sams Club. I park and unload everyone only to realize I forgot my wallet! The library is close by so we go there instead.as we are walking into the library I get a text from the Realtor that someone wants to see the house. Glad I cleaned the night before because after getting Vanessa, I will have 15 mins to get my wallet and Rocky and make sure everything is picked up. We make it and call it mission accomplished.
A few hours later I run to WalMart- by myself!!- to grab a few things Sams doesn't carry. I drove Jon's truck. After parking, I sit in the car a few minutes and think of five billion things I need to do as well as try to remember what I'm getting. Then I jump out and lock the door. They are manual locks. I suddenly realize I don't have the keys. Crap. I just locked them inside. And, is that the trucks engine?! Ya, the truck is definitely still running with the keys locked inside. Awesome.
So fast forward to today. There is an agent showing at 9:30. So again, I clean the night before. Brig has been wearing undies on and off and doing ok with it. So I decide to put undies on him. We are going to the park so if he pees, it'll be outside. At 8:30 I sit down to feed Annabelle. Even though it feels early for her to eat; she's pretty sure she's hungry. I have a text from my realtor saying tour is at 9:15. 15 min earlier than I thought but we can do it. Cut Annabelle off a little early but she's satisfied for now. Everyone's ready. Brig pees all over the kitchen floor. Change Brigham and mop the floor. Put Benson in his power chair. He heads to get some toys and bits of mud fall out of his wheels. Send Benson outside. Vacuum floor. Find Brig on the counter eating a banana with a single bite out of four plums. Load everyone into the car and head to the park. I have to take Rocky. I tie him up somewhere. He starts whining. Of course. Annabelle is crying again because she's hungry again. Move Rocky to a new spot. Sit down to feed Annabelle. Benson comes over and has to go potty. I stop feeding Annabelle and take Benson potty. In the bathroom, I laid Annabelle on my nursing cover and strapped her onto the changing table. That won't work when she starts rolling. Maybe a stroller will be necessary. Potty business done. I finally feed the poor child. The rest of the day was fairly uneventful. Until we heard that the septic repair on the house we are buying will cost $6800. Yikes! Now we have to negotiate who is going to pay that with the sellers :(
It's been crazy chaos around here for sure. But some fun things going on too. Annabelle smiled several times on Sunday morning(at three weeks to the day). It was during a time that she was awake and looking at us so it was the real deal. She is also smiling tons in her sleep though too. It always makes me wonder what they are dreaming of.
With the high humidity, Brigham's hair is curly and adorbs.

Brigham's Birthday
We celebrated early with my parents, since they were leaving before the actual day. He opened gifts from Grandma and Grandpa and also had an awesome ice cream cake.
On his actual birthday we went to Chuck-E-Cheese. A favorite of the kids. We had BBQ chicken pizza and scored 420 tickets. Possibly a record for our crew. The kids always love picking their prizes and Brig got cotton candy.
This is how Annabelle does Chuck-E-Cheese.
After the Cheese we made brownies and my little helpers fought over who got to lick what. Brig was actually really mad when I put the brownies in the oven. He liked the batter better.
Brigham- You are growing like a weed and you have really started eating well- the things you like. Current favorites are yogurt, peanut butter sandwiches, fruit, spaghetti, and chocolate. Your favorite color is green. You also know Benson's favorite is blue and Vanessa likes pink and purple. You point out their favorite colors everywhere. You love all the same things as your brother (like Ninja Turtles, cars, etc). You are an awesome helper and are always willing to get things for anyone. Your puppy name is always Cheesy. You still want your binki. The rule is only for sleeping and you think it's pretty funny to try to sneak it during the day. You have also realized mom can't understand you with a binki though. You love to talk. About everything and anything and you do it very well. Your favorite movie is probably Curious George. You have finally stopped coloring on the walls and really do ask for paper when you want to color. You still love mischief though and hate to be told no. You make us laugh all.the.time! Happy Birthday Buddy! We love you SO much!!
That crazy week we had a baby and bought a new house
You would think four days in Disney World at 8 months
pregnant, followed by influenza A and some intense coughing would put
me in labor. But all it did was make her drop really low. I attribute that to
the coughing. So there she sat, for a good 5 weeks. I actually wondered if she
was going to have a funny shaped head because she was so wedged down in my
pelvis. At least I could breathe better!
Throughout February, I had Braxton Hicks contractions all
day, most days. And several nights I had real contractions. I was sure she was
coming a couple times.
On Thursday, March 6 we picked my parents up from the
airport. They were here to see a baby and little miss still hadn't come. We
grabbed a bite to eat and then I went to a doctor appointment. Jon got off just
in time to come with me. I had not been checked for dilation yet and today was
my due date (according to my last period). I told Dr Lehnert that if I was
dilated, which I was sure I was, to go ahead and strip my membranes. I was
ready to have a baby. He checked and his response was, “You’re not dilated, not at all.” Jon’s
face was a mix of shock and a little bit angry. Haha. I couldn’t believe it
either. He said I was maybe 50% effaced.
I was so sure I had been dilating with some of those contractions. That was
such a disappointment. Dr Lehnert was going out of town for spring break so he
set an induction date for March 17, if I was still pregnant.
We headed home and then went straight to Nixa to look at a
house we had seen online the night before. We had started looking at homes out
of frustration in the cost of building. We randomly found a relatively new
listing that had 5 bedrooms all on one level. It also was on 5 acres, which is
something Jon wanted. So all seven of us loaded up into the car and went to
look at this home. It was a bit crazy with so many people and the crazy kiddos,
but we were immediately in love with the house. The halls were 4’ wide, the
doorways were 36” wide. There was the perfect bathroom that could be remodeled
for Benson. The bedrooms were all together on the same side of the house which
I consider a pro; though the kids may one day wish for a little more space. It
had a storage shed as well as small barn type building with a perfect place for
a chicken coup. Have I mentioned I hope to get chickens? Other bonuses included
that it did not have an HOA associated with it so there were no restrictions on
having chickens. It was completely meant to be. The perfect home for us, at the
perfectly wrong time. J
We talked about the house quite a bit and decided to put an
offer in. This would mean we would have to get our home fixed up and sold, pack
and move; all while giving birth, caring for a newborn, recovering from
childbirth, and caring for three other littles. It felt and FEELS
overwhelming. We sent our first offer in
the next day, with a 60 day close date of May 8.
On Saturday, March 7 we busted out some house fixes. My
parents helped out and we got quite a bit done. It was enough to make me feel
like we could knock things off our list fairly quickly. That night I went to
bed with a few contractions. They were good, strong ones but I didn’t think
anything of it. A few contractions woke me up throughout the night but I would
immediately go back to sleep. In the morning, I told Jon I had been having
contractions and he told me to get ready to go for a walk.
Jon and I left the kids with my parents and walked for a
good hour. When we got home, we loaded everyone into the car and went to the
park down the street and I walked some more. I laid down with Benson for a
little bit and then by 3:00pm I was in labor and ready to head to the bathroom.
I hung out in the bathroom for the next three hours. The kids came in occasionally
and were very confused about what was going on. I hadn’t even thought to
explain labor to them. I assumed they would be asleep while I was in labor since
I always seem to have babies at night. My labor was similar to my labor with
Brigham. If I laid down for too long, the contractions would stop. Around
4:00pm I got tired enough that I actually took a nap on the bathroom floor for
about thirty minutes. I took a shower, did my hair (ya know, between
contractions, because short hair can get some serious bed head). Around 6:00pm
I started to get the shakes. This made me really nervous because with my other
babies, I got the shakes at the end, like during pushing. This made me think
she was coming soon and I panicked just a little bit. Everyone else was eating
dinner and I basically made Jon drop everything and take me to the hospital.
Brigham had been playing on my phone earlier and no one could find it and I
just told him to leave it. I didn’t want anyone to panic so I tried to remain
calm, but I was shaking and it was making me worried I would be having a baby
in the car. I have secretly always wanted to deliver at home, but not during
the day. I didn’t want the kids to hear the chaos and be freaked out. Haha.
We made it to Labor and Delivery, several contractions later
but with no pushing. They could see that I was in active labor so we went
through triage pretty quick. She checked me immediately and I was at a 6. They
had me in a room within about 10 minutes but then brought boat loads of
paperwork. Who does paperwork while they are in labor?! And the nurse really
truly expected me to do it. Jon tried to help and I finally just stopped doing
it and he finished.
About an hour later, the doctor on call came in and
introduced herself. Dr Cobb, a hospitalist; so she doesn’t see patients. She
was fine with me pushing however I wanted and suggested I try it on my side
since I was laboring on my side. She said she is very in favor of natural birth
and was working to get a birthing center attached to the hospital. I loved her
already. I think it was also around this time that Jon got a text from our
realtor about the house and the counter offer they had given. Jon mentioned
what it said, but I don’t think I really responded much until after she was
born.
A short time later, I started losing my mind. I had the
antsy, get me out of here feeling. I had never felt this way with either of the
boys and it was a bit crazy. I literally felt like I was going to lose my mind
and wished I had gotten the epi at this point. I asked to be checked again. I
was only at a 7. Dr Cobb came back and offered to break my water. I wasn’t
progressing very fast and it was probably because my water wouldn’t break on
its own but it was bulging a lot. I knew it needed to be done but I was almost
on the brink of insanity and breaking the water makes it intense. I geared
myself up for it, waited out one contraction, and then she broke my water. The next contraction was a pushing
contraction (accompanied with a deep grunt; that means business). They had all
just barely left the room and I was telling Jon, she’s coming! Everyone turned
right back around and there were ready to go. Dr Cobb said I was still only a 7
but she suspected I would be complete with the next contraction. Whether I was complete or not, my body was definitely
pushing this baby out and it wasn’t like I could stop it! But I did finish
dilating the next contraction. The next contraction she was out to her ears and
then they had me turn onto my back. The nurses had to help hold my legs because
I wasn’t. I couldn’t focus on everything everyone wanted me to do. The
contractions were pushing so hard, I felt like I was barely consciously pushing
myself. Her shoulders were out the next contraction and then Dr Cobb stepped
aside and let Jon finish catching. I finally felt like I consciously
contributed one big final push and she was out. Jon put her up on my chest and
she was the pinkest baby you have ever seen. Dr Cobb does delayed cord
clamping, which is also awesome. She told Jon when it was time to clamp and cut
and then he also pulled the placenta out. She was born at 8:39pm with apgars 9
and 9. She was 7lbs 13oz and 21.5” long.
The nurse rubbed her down a bit while she was in my arms and
put the antibiotics on her eyes. They immediately helped me get her skin to
skin and wrapped us both in blankets. The shaking got even more intense and my
teeth started chattering. That darn shaking.
They have you stay in recovery for three hours. With Benson being
sick, we felt like Jon needed to be at home with him for the night so Jon left
around 11. I was transferred to my postpartum room around midnight. After I was
all settled, I thought for sure I would crash and be sound asleep. Annabelle
slept like a champ but I sat and watched all the required baby videos. Then I
ordered breakfast at 5am, and still couldn’t believe I wasn’t sleeping.
The whole crew arrived around 10 the next morning. When the
kids walked into the room, I was holding Annabelle and they all started looking
around the room for her. “Where is she mom? Where is she?” They were looking
right at me but they didn’t realize I was holding her. She was so much smaller
than they had expected. They were all very excited to hold her. It’s so much
fun watching siblings meet for the first time. Jon took everyone home around
noon and then came back to hang out with me and Annabelle for the rest of the
day. During this time, we electronically signed a contract to buy the house in
Nixa. Let the craziness begin. Around 5pm, Danae and Eliza came to visit.
Jon
had to head home to get to work the next day. I thought for sure I would sleep
well tonight. But, I only slept about 5 hours or so. I still just sat there for
a lot of the night, staring at my perfectly beautiful little miracle. We were
discharged the next morning around 10. Vanessa came with my dad to pick us up
and she loved watching Annabelle in her car seat on the way home. She gave us a
play-by-play narration of every little thing she did. It was really cute.
The next few days included some light packing, trying to
catch up on sleep, and trying to keep the kids entertained while loving on a
new baby girl. She has barely been set down between my parents, Vanessa,
Benson, me and Jon. Someone always wants to hold her. She had bright blue eyes
by the second day, fuzzy dark hair, and skin softer than is ever possible to
remember. We sure love this girl.
